Who We Are

Help for Headaches began as a Migraine support group in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1994. In 1995 we registered as a non-profit organization (NPO) and also became registered as a Canadian educational health charity.

We function on a voluntary basis and take pride in providing Headache and Migraine sufferers with education and research, especially when it involves proven scientific methods that often save patients money.

One of our strengths is that we educate and advocate for both "Headache" and "Migraine" patients. We recognize that many Headache Types can also be difficult to manage, or treat.

Today, we service the needs of Headache and Migraine sufferers across Ontario and some outlying parts of Canada.

We have a strong relationship with Canada's two other Migraine organizations: Migraine Canada (Canada, national), and Migraine Quebec (Quebec, provincial, francais).

Our materials have been reviewed by Canadian Headache Neurologists.

Past professional memberships include: The World Headache Alliance and The Canadian Pain Society. With great excitement, we have recently become involved with the International Headache Society - Global Patient Advocacy Coalition (IHS-GPAC)

Our signature program consists of two posters that highlight 10-12 Headache and Migraine Types, that outline in simple language the many common types of headaches and their associated features. The posters will help you determine which headache most closely fits with your headache pattern, making it easier for you to communicate these symptoms with your doctor, to get the right diagnosis and treatments.

They also assist on eliminating guesswork, as many headache types have features that mimic other types.

The following Headache Types poster (below) was recently updated by Canada's most experienced Headache Neurologists, so you can trust its content. It highlights the location on the head (where the pain is experienced), severity of the pain (thatdescribes pain sensations),frequency (of the headache experienced), along with Special Notes suggested by experts.

Other professionals and the media will additionally benefit from these points.

The poster below can be viewed HERE

We can also email this poster to you to add to your phone, or laptop for easy reference, such as when you are waiting in a physician's waiting room, or anywhere.

A poster was also created for those that suffer from Chronic Headaches.

Note: It is important to note that space does not allow us to mention every chronic headache type.

We have authored a series of books on Headaches and Migraines. Our latest book called Navigating Toward Better Headache Care that discusses the many things you can do while waiting for a physician's appointment.

Please refer to the book's chapter 8 Newer and Emerging Treatments that discusses the recent emergence (or coming soon) of a class of medicines known as Anti Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) medicines. View our page on anti CGRP treatments HERE

The above book is a national voluntary project for Canada and is therefore not available on Amazon. You can order a copy from our charity website HERE

For low income sufferers, the book is available in numerous public libraries across Canada. If your particular public library in your town does not carry this title, you can recommend that they add it to their collections so yourself or others can enjoy this book.

Education is always your first step when understanding any topic or health issue. Headache is a disorder that has numerous sub-types.

Our charity looks forward to working with you.
